Madman in the Woods ////// 597 Part 1 of 1 www.TrueCrimeGarage.com Unfortunately serial killers and terrorists are in a lot of ways similar to the rest of us but of course with drastic differences. But one of the ways that they are like the rest of us they have family, friends and neighbors. This week we are joined in the Garage by someone who knows this much better than any of us. Jamie Gehring grew up a friendly neighbor to both a serial killer and terrorist. Ted Kaczynski better known as the Unabomber eluded capture and terrorized us for 17 years while the FBI tried desperately to track him down. Meanwhile he was making and sending bombs from a small shack in Lincoln, Montana. Join us for a cold beer and some intriguing conversation with someone who grew up right next door to hell. The Evansdale Murders - Ten Years Later /// Part 2 /// 596 Part 2 of 2 www.TrueCrimeGarage.com What could be more innocent, more everyday America, than two little girls setting off on a bike ride to explore the neighborhood? Princess Doe ////// 594 Part 1 of 1 www.TrueCrimeGarage.com On July 15th, 1982 a grave digger at the Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Blairstown New Jersey made a gruesome discovery. On the very edge of the grounds near highway 94 in a wooded area near a creek he found the body of a young female. She had been bludgeoned to death and left there for an indeterminate amount of time. The good people of local law enforcement and the people of Blairstown named her “Princess Doe.” Unfortunately we are coming up on forty years since she was killed and we still do not know the true identity of Princess Doe. This topic led us to many other topics while exploring the theories surrounding the mystery of Princess Doe. Those topics include but were not limited to - The crimes of Arthur and Donna Kinlaw, The “Tiger Lady” who’s remains were found in 1991 along highway 94, The Long Island Serial Killer and Joel Rifkin. America’s Highway Serial Killers /// Part 4 /// 593 Part 4 of 4 www.TrueCrimeGarage.com This week we pick up right where we left off with more bad guys and bad news from America’s Highways. Tammy Jo Zywicki was an amazing young woman who had just one year left at Grinnell college before going on to some big and wonderful things. When her car broke down in central Illinois that all changed. Most of us would have stopped to help the young woman or felt guilty as we continued on our journey hoping not to be later for our next stop. Unfortunately in this real life true crime story that was not to be. As her Pontiac sat on the side of Interstate 80 (I-80) Tammy had her head under the hood trying to fix the problem but then along came a spider. A predator saw an opportunity and pounced. Police have come up with some suspects over the years and we are ready to serve them up to you as we close out this four part series. If you have any information regarding the still unsolved murder of Tammy Jo Zywicki please call or email your local FBI office. If you have any information regarding the still unsolved murder of Kristin Schmidt please call the Oregon State Police - dial *OSP or *677 if you are calling from a mobile phone, or dial: 503-378-3720 Beer of the Week - Pitch Invasion Lager (Nashville Soccer Club) by the amazing folks over at Fat Bottom Brewing Co. America’s Highway Serial Killers /// Part 2 /// 591 Part 2 of 4 www.TrueCrimeGarage.com This week we start off by looking at an unsolved homicide of a young woman from California. Twenty two year old Kristin Alice Schmidt’s body was recovered from a State Park in Oregon. She was killed elsewhere and her body dumped and discovered by campers. As we started to look at Kristin’s still very active case investigation we learned that something larger may be at hand. Something so much larger than any one investigation. Something larger than an Oregon state investigation. America has a problem that was first identified back in the 1980’s. In April of 2009 the F.B.I. announced their Highway Serial Killings Initiative to raise awareness among law enforcement agencies and the general public about this issue and the F.B.I.’s offered assistance in these cases.
