Amanda Turnill is the Managing Director of Auticon and an advocate for the rights of people with autism. She is an internationally recognised regulatory and product liability lawyer based in Sydney. She recently retired from the law to spend more time with her two teenage children, who are both on the autistic spectrum. Given this background and that so many gifted autistic people struggle to obtain gainful employment due to current social norms rather than technology skills, Amanda is enthusiastic about her leadership position at auticon. Amanda believes that many other parents of neurodiverse children and adults will have similar stories and will want to know about auticon’s mission here. He has a keen interest in technical and business agility, complexity theory, evidence-based management, strategy and ecosystem design, and corporate innovation. Judy Singer first coined the word Neurodiversity while writing a sociology thesis on the rise of the Autistic Self-Advocacy Movement at the University of Technology Sydney in 1998. In her thesis, Judy foresaw that a broader movement would emerge as other neurological minorities followed in the Autistics’ footsteps. She therefore proposed the idea of a “Neurodiversity Movement” as an umbrella term for all of them as they strove to end discrimination caused by negative stereotypes. You can connect with Judy Singer on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ judysingerneurodiversity/ Judy is interviewed after speaking at the Thriving Now Neurodiversity & Employment Symposium in Sydney.
